Woven scarf from China
Story of the block
This scarf was bought in 2006 during my trip to Weihai, Shandong Province. Weihai is a port city in east China and clothes there are very fashionable and cheap.
My mother bought this for me as a gift for my upcoming graduate study in the United States. She chose this purple one because this color in China symbolizes prestige, riches, and honor. In traditional Chinese society, officials’ uniforms were ranked by color and purple robes were for the most eminent ones. Thus, mother gave it to me as a good wish for my future.
